Cohere Arts CIC are seeking two assistant choral leaders for freelance project work in East Anglia Oct-Nov 2023.

This year, Cohere Arts have been working in partnership with Suffolk Archives, Asset Education and Britten Pears Arts, on Unsung Heroes, a schools project made possible with funding from Heritage Lottery Fund. Children from 13 Suffolk primary schools have taken part in heritage workshops to discover stories and characters from their school’s history, and worked with composers to create an ‘Unsung Hero’ song for each school. In the Autumn term of 2023, year 6 children from each school will join together to form a trust-wide choir to rehearse and perform the Unsung Heroes songs at Snape Maltings Concert Hall in Suffolk, under the choral direction of Tom Appleton.

We are looking for 2 assistant choral leaders to work in supporting roles leading up to the concert. Each will:

  • Attend a planning/mentoring day led by the Choral Director (Sept 2023, date TBC)
  • Assist the Choral Director in 4 after-school rehearsals at Suffolk schools (Oct 2023, dates TBC)
  • Attend the concert day at Snape Maltings, assisting with rehearsals and a public performance on Sat 18th November

ABOUT YOU:

You may have prior experience leading group singing with children, or you may be a music teacher wanting to upskill in this area. Equally, this is an ideal entry role for a recent graduate or someone at the start of their career. Either way, this is a valuable opportunity to shadow and learn from a highly experienced practitioner. Most importantly, you will be willing to muck in with our project team and help create a special concert day for the children. As advocates of diversity, inclusivity and representation, we are particularly interested to hear from artists from the global majority, and/or those living with a disability or health challenge.

FEE: £620 (planning day £150, rehearsals 4 x £80, performance day £150)
