As a composer and theatre-maker, my work has always been inspired by historical and contemporary real-life stories and the relationships between people and place. In many projects I collaborate with professional artists and communities to make performance work that celebrates creativity as a catalyst for growth, health and wellbeing.
In this work I have explored various methods used to enhance accessibility for differently abled audiences and performers, but have always been curious about how access needs could be integrated into the creative process right from a work’s inception. In 2020 I was awarded a DYCP grant from Arts Council England to develop my creative practice in this area. My aim is to develop new knowledge and skills that will enable my work to fully reflect my values around inclusivity.
This blog series has been created to share the perspectives and discussions of experienced practitioners and innovators in this area; to signpost good practice and inspire other artists to consider accessibility as an integral part of the creative process.
